Iran War

Seven months since the outbreak of the Iran War, shipping through the Strait of Hormuz has not recovered.

In the week of 28 September, transits averaged 2.7 ships a day, against 85 a day in 2025, and renewed attacks in October have put the partial recovery under pressure. Bypass pipelines to the Red Sea and the Gulf of Oman restored some exports, but only for some commodities.

Likewise, damage to plants, refineries and gas facilities across the Gulf means that the region has far less to ship.

This Prewave Supply Chain Analysis traces how the disruption reached European manufacturing. It covers which Gulf supplies Europe has replaced and which inputs remain short, drawing on EU customs data and Prewave’s own customer networks.
